Talking Mountain towering over the frozen Echo Lakes

Talking Mountain as it overlooks the Echo Lakes basin at the edge of the Desolation Wilderness in the distance (towards the back as viewed looking west).

Despite the relatively warm winter this season, and half the usual amount of snow for this time of year, the Echo Lakes are still frozen with about 2-3 feet of snow on the surrounding terrain.  This morning I snowshoed across these lakes, and used my drone to get photographs (and video) of the surrounding landscape.  I continue to be astounded about what one is able to see with the use of the drone, and the quality of photographs and video it is able to capture.

You can view a video of this visit on YouTube here.

TThe ice on the lake seemed to be about 6" thick, but tapers to a thinner layer at some areas along the shore, near the active streams, and some exposed rocks that are exposed to more of the heat from the sun and underlying earth. Thus, one needs to be careful where you tread in such areas.
