Morning landscapes at Cosumnes River Preserve

Morning Mist

Foggy morning landscapes near the Cosumnes River Preserve on Desmond Road, along with some on Staten Island Road.

I was out there for the purpose of bird photography in the early morning light.  The birds were less cooperative, but the mood conveyed by the mist in the air helped turn it more into a landscape session.  I also found some signs of illegal hunting, hearing guns going off in very close proximity, and then having a truck roar by me in the darkness as I approached the bend on Desmond Road from Bruceville Road.  Exploring a bit further, I found some dead ducks that appeared to have been recently dumped off the side of the road there.  Perhaps they panicked when they saw my vehicle approaching them at such an earlier time in the morning?

Sandhill Cranes can be found at either location, with them toward the back of the flooded area off Bruceville and Desmond and somewhat out of range (see picture #5 below) due to deeper water closer in.  On the other hand they are closer and more plentiful on the east side of Staten Island Road (see the last row of pictures).  But given that is also the direction of the sunrise, morning photography is more challenged, resulting in backlit and silhouette types of captures.
