Grinding rock ceremonial house

Ceremonial house at Indian Grinding Rock California State Park.  Also referred to as Chaw'se by the local native Americans.  This park is a previous home of the Miwok before being driven from the land by the anglo settlers during gold rush of the 1850's. You can find remnants of their past village as evidenced by a large field of grinding holes that the natives used to grind acorns into flour.  Today it is also a major gathering spot for many tribes of Northern California that get together here during the "Big Time" event at the end of September to celebrate the harvest ahead of the cold season.
