Crane morning departure

Sandhill Crane departing in the morning from its overnight roost at Bosque del Apache. These birds like many other waterfowl sleep in the middle of these ponds during the night as a way to protect themselves from other predators.  The Bosque wildlife preserve is a major winter ground for Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese, and many other bird species.  I just returned from a trip to this location about 70 miles south of Albuquerque New Mexico, and have produced a photo essay on my experience of this trip as found here.
