Roundtop Mountain wildflowers
Wildflowers are in peak bloom on the trail from Carson Pass to Winnemucca Lake. I was out there on an afternoon day hike on July 9th, returning to the trailhead by sunset in order to take best advantage of the evening light. Everything seems extremely fresh and vibrant, making it a pleasure to your eyes and photography. The lupine, paint brush (both scarlett and a yellow version), and mule ear seemed expecially abundant.
While on the hike I also ran into a PCT trail hiker (pictured below wearing a kilt). Starting at the Mexican border in early April, he has been averaging about 20 miles a day. At this pace he expects to reach Canada by the end of September. He reported that the wildflowers in the high sierra have been quite good, enjoying them on the trail for the last 3 weeks. As has been customary and given the arduous journey of this hike, we shared with him some fruit, and snacks with another group of 3 PCT hikers we ran into later after reaching the Carson Pass parking lot.
