High plains of the Kolob Terrace
A lone cow grazing on the high plains of the Kolob Terrace on the outskirts of Zion National Park. This location is a bit more off the beaten path from the main tourist drag down in the park. I ended up bivouacking out in this general area while passing through the park, after unable to find a reasonable camp site closer in. I was surprised to see how crowded Zion was in early November on a Monday, not thinking I would need reservations. Apparently the Utah tourist board has done quite a good job in encouraging visitors to this beautiful park.
The grass up on this plain was remarkable for its pristine nature, apparently based on its isolation from other non-native grasses or invasive weeds. A small cloud front moving through the area helped to provide a bit more reflective lighting for this photograph. This was shot with a Canon EOS 70D with the EF-S 17-55mm lens at 55mm with a circular polarizer, 1/80th sec, f/14, and ISO 400.
