The last hand
An old poker table in a saloon at the Cerro Gordo mine. This privately owned ghost town is up in the Inyo Mountains east of Keeler. The owner/caretaker have done a remarkable job in preserving the authenticity of this old mining town. Note the age of the cards on the table and the shotgun pellet holes in the wall behind it.
They mined silver and lead here starting in 1866, until the mine finally ceased formal operations in about 1957. The silver mined here was very signficant in its richness, and was responsible for funding much of the original development of the city of Los Angeles.
