The eagles nest

The eagle's nest

Osprey (aka sea eagle) coming in for a landing at its nest on a tufa at Mono Lake. Photographed while kayaking Mono Lake using a 100-400 mm telephoto lens. While out on the lake I noticed about 4 different active Osprey nests. The tufas provide a protective location from land based predators such as coyote or fox.  The Osprey feed on trout over at nearby Rush Creek, one of four the streams that supply water to Mono Lake. You can see a link to some other Osprey photographs from my kayaking trip to Mono Lake here.
