Window to the west
Through the window of what remains of an old building at Fort Churchill. The remains of this old US army fort is located on the East Carson River in western Nevada. It was established in 1860 to build up the US military presence in response to a native American uprising (by the Piautes) that were successfull in fending off an attack by white settlers that thought they could have their way in the Pyramid Lake area. The fort was also used as a resupply base for further military adventures including additional aggressions with other indian tribes. The fort was ultimately abandoned in 1869 when it no longer served its purpose.
