Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls of Yosemite National Park.  Photographed on an early spring morning while the falls are fully in shadow.  Capturing this image was a bit tricky due to the amount of mist coming from the falls.  In my earlier captures, I was further away, but not satisfied with the results.  To get the desired composition above involved getting thoroughly soaked.  To protect the camera I covered it in a towel while on the tripod with a lens hood, and pre-focused ahead of time.  The capture involved quickly pulling the towel back and getting the exposure while trying to avoid getting water droplets on the front of the lens.  This required multiple tries before getting it right, wiping the lens down between exposures.

This image as a print is currently on exhibit at the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center in midtown Sacramento, as part of a 60 print exhibition titled: Yosemite, Grand Gesture of the Range of Light.  This print was awarded 2nd place.  The gallery is located at 2015 J street.
