Illuminated oak

An oak tree illuminated by a sun beam on a misty morning. Photographed in an oak savannah south of Folsom and highway 50.  While wandering through this grove of trees looking for a photo-op, I spotted the sun beam breaking through the trees in the distance, and quickly searched for a more complete composition. This blue oak tree in the foreground ended up being an ideal subject, working out well after some careful repositioning to better isolate it from some surrounding clutter.

Winter mornings can be a great time for such photography, after the grasses start to green back up, the temperatures are lower, and there is enough moisture to create a layer of mist that permeates across the landscape. This was photographed with a Canon EOS 5D mark III with an EF 24-105mm f/4 L lens handheld, at 105mm, ISO 200, f/13, and 1/30 second.
