Sandhill Crane arrival

A Sandhill crane arriving at its roosting pond for the night. Photographed earlier this month at  Bosque del Apache, a wildlife refuge located about 70 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Each year a population of about 10,000 cranes migrate here for the winter, returning in February back up to Alaska or upper reaches of Canada.
