Red canyon

Stephen Fischer Photography

Rating: 1A-I

This short little canyon is an easy hike and worth a stop if in the area between Zion and Kanab off highway 89.  With a round trip distance of less than a mile, it is ideal for those less adventurous and don't want to do too much hiking.   It does require a 4wd vehicle to reach for a closer walk, but a good excuse to get some use out of it if your other biggest justification is making runs to Costco or loading it up with bags of landscape bark from Home Depot.  More details on Red Canyon can be found here.

We stopped here at Red Canyon to check it out on the way through to Kanab on a trip into the Vermillion Cliffs area. The photography and diversity of this canyon is limited by its relatively short length.
