Picture of the week

A Eurasian Wigeon on the edge of a pond in the Sailor Bar area of the American River Parkway. They have a distinctive gold colored mohawk with red sides on the head.  The more common American Wigeon will have a green head instead. This duck is relatively rare to find in this area, but for some reason this particular one has decided to stay make this pond its home. You can see it pretty much every morning lately, sometimes calling out in a distinctive whistle for a mate.
