Picture of the week

A kingfisher perched on a branch over the river on the American River parkway. They are very shy and will not let humans get within about 100 feet of them. To get this shot I set up a blind next to a tree that I have seen this bird frequent.  It took about 2 hours of patiently sitting in this blind for the kingfisher to show up and land a branch close enough that I had sufficient line-of-sight to photograph it. Prior to that, it would circle the blind, suspicous and keep some distance.
