The last half of the images shown on this page
were photographed at a nearby location known as Grouse Ridge. It is back
down the road about 6 miles, and then up a separate dirt road to the east
about 5 miles. From the end of the road up Grouse Ridge, there is a fire
look-out that you can hike to that is only about 1/4 mile past a locked gate
controlled by the US forest service. This look-out offers a high vantage
point at 7700 feet with a 360 degree view of the western slope of the
sierras. While visiting this location last, I ran into a local Tom (and some
of his friends) who has a place down closer to Fuller Lake. He is a very
friendly independently minded guy, seems well connected, and helps do some
of the road maintanence for the area on the side. According to Tom the
USFS in the process of revamping the fire look-out, with an eye toward
future commercialization.
