Nature's Corridor - Reflections of the American River Parkway

Selected fine art framed prints from Stephen Fischer's work on the American River Parkway will be on display at the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center Gallery (2015 Jst, midtown Sacramento). The Exhibit opening reception will be on Friday, November 11th, 5:30 - 9:00 PM and Second Saturday event on November 12th, 5:30 - 9:00 PM. Exhibit artist statement

A beltway of preserved land on both sides of the American River, the Parkway provides a natural and scenic sanctuary from the nearby hustle and bustle of the Sacramento metropolitan area. With its continuous bike trail and many hiking paths, it is a popular recreation area considered by many as the crown jewel of the Sacramento region. Serving as a corridor for a wide range of wildlife, some passing through from the sea or the mountains, others thriving within this area year round, coexisting within surrounding man-made developments. This exhibit presents images of this natural corridor, reflecting the beauty and serenity of the American River Parkway.

Today the American River Parkway continues to be as popular as ever. With the budget and economic crises we currently face, the necessary funding to maintain and protect this important natural resource is under considerable stress. Although some may not consider it as tangible as some material resources, the Parkway has a significant impact on the quality of life for many who live in the Sacramento area and enjoy this habitat, that provides a refuge from the stresses of our more confined daily lives. It is hoped that these images will serve to inspire us to do what we can to support and preserve the Parkway, visit and enjoy all that it has to offer, and not take this gift of nature and past efforts to establish this habitat for granted.
