Fallen Roof ruins

Stephen Fischer Photography

The Fallen Roof ruin is unusual for the sandstone ceiling slabs that have previously fallen to ground immediately in front of the ruin. Visiting them can given you a slightly uneasy feeling that another big piece could come dropping down crushing you like a bug while are looking inside.  The ceiling has some nice colors and textures to it that photograph well.

Beyond the main ruins on the same ledge, you can proceed further down canyon an encounter a number of additional smaller sites that look more like granaries. This because they tend to have a smaller doorway that could be sealed and no windows.  Some of these have their timbers exposed from the mud and clay that was previously used for form the walls.  It is quite interesting the original wood construction still holding up after last maintained about 800 years ago.
